Dear Miss Woodhouse!' - and `Dear Miss Woodhouse,' was all that Harriet, with many tender embraces could articulate at first; but when they did arrive at something more like conversation, it was sufficiently clear to her friend that she saw, felt, anticipated, and remembered just as she ought. Mr. Elton's superiority had very ample acknowledgment.
`Whatever you say is always right,' cried Harriet, `and therefore I suppose, and believe, and hope it must be so; but otherwise I could not have imagined it. It is so much beyond any thing I deserve. Mr. Elton, who might marry any body! There cannot be two opinions about him. He is so very superior. Only think of those sweet verses - `To Miss - -.' Dear me, how clever! - Could it really be meant for me?'
`I cannot make a question, or listen to a question about that. It is a certainty. Receive it on my judgment. It is a sort of prologue to the play, a motto to the chapter; and will be soon followed by matter-of-fact prose.'
`It is a sort of thing which nobody could have expected. I am sure, a month ago, I had no more idea myself! - The strangest things do take place!'
`When Miss Smiths and Mr. Eltons get acquainted - they do indeed - and really it is strange; it is out of the common course that what is so evidently, so palpably desirable - what courts the pre-arrangement of other people, should so immediately shape itself into the proper form. You and Mr. Elton are by situation called together; you belong to one another by every circumstance of your respective homes. Your marrying will be equal to the match at Randalls. There does seem to be a something in the air of Hartfield which gives love exactly the right direction, and sends it into the very channel where it ought to flow.
The course of true love never did run smooth -
A Hartfield edition of Shakespeare would have a long note on that passage.'
`That Mr. Elton should really be in love with me, - me, of all people, who did not know him, to speak to him, at Michaelmas! And he, the very handsomest man that ever was, and a man that every body looks up to, quite like Mr. Knightley! His company so sought after, that every body says he need not eat a single meal by himself if he does not chuse it; that he has more invitations than there are days in the week. And so excellent in the Church! Miss Nash has put down all the texts he has ever preached from since he came to Highbury. Dear me! When I look back to the first time I saw him! How little did I think! - The two Abbots and I ran into the front room and peeped through the blind when we heard he was going by, and Miss Nash came and scolded us away, and staid to look through herself; however, she called me back presently, and let me look too, which was very good-natured. And how beautiful we thought he looked! He was arm-in-arm with Mr. Cole.'
`This is an alliance which, whoever - whatever your friends may be, must be agreeable to them, provided at least they have common sense; and we are not to be addressing our conduct to fools. If they are anxious to see you happily married, here is a man whose amiable character gives every assurance of it; - if they wish to have you settled in the same country and circle which they have chosen to place you in, here it will be accomplished; and if their only object is that you should, in the common phrase, be well married, here is the comfortable fortune, the respectable establishment, the rise in the world which must satisfy them.'
`Yes, very true. How nicely you talk; I love to hear you. You understand every thing. You and Mr. Elton are one as clever as the other. This charade! - If I had studied a twelvemonth, I could never have made any thing like it.'
`I thought he meant to try his skill, by his manner of declining it yesterday.'
`I do think it is, without exception, the best charade I ever read.'
`I never read one more to the purpose, certainly.'
`It is as long again as almost all we have had before.'
`I do not consider its length as particularly in its favour. Such things in general cannot be too short.'
Harriet was too intent on the lines to hear. The most satisfactory comparisons were rising in her mind.
`It is one thing,' said she, presently - her cheeks in a glow - `to have very good sense in a common way, like every body else, and if there is any thing to say, to sit down and write a letter, and say just what you must, in a short way; and another, to write verses and charades like this.'
Emma could not have desired a more spirited rejection of Mr. Martin's prose.
`Such sweet lines!' continued Harriet - `these two last! - But how shall I ever be able to return the paper, or say I have found it out? - Oh! Miss Woodhouse, what can we do about that?'

"Farewell, he said, and sailed away.
In an old war song, called "The King of England's Son," it says:
"Farewell, he said, and sailed away.
And many recollect that day.
The ropes were of silk, the anchor of gold,
chanel 2.55 bag
chanel crossbody bag
chanel evening bag
And everywhere riches and wealth untold."
These words would aptly describe the vessel from Spain, for here
was the same luxury, and the same parting thought naturally arose:
"God grant that we once more may meet
In sweet unclouded peace and joy."
There was a favourable wind blowing as they left the Spanish
coast, and it would be but a short journey, for they hoped to reach
their destination in a few weeks; but when they came out upon the wide
ocean the wind dropped, the sea became smooth and shining, and the
stars shone brightly. Many festive evenings were spent on board. At
last the travellers began to wish for wind, for a favourable breeze;
but their wish was useless- not a breath of air stirred, or if it
did arise it was contrary. Weeks passed by in this way, two whole
months, and then at length a fair wind blew from the south-west. The
ship sailed on the high seas between Scotland and Jutland; then the
wind increased, just as it did in the old song of "The King of
England's Son."
"'Mid storm and wind, and pelting hail,
Their efforts were of no avail.
The golden anchor forth they threw;
Towards Denmark the west wind blew."
This all happened a long time ago; King Christian VII, who sat
on the Danish throne, was still a young man. Much has happened since
then, much has altered or been changed. Sea and moorland have been
turned into green meadows, stretches of heather have become arable
land, and in the shelter of the peasant's cottages, apple-trees and
rose-bushes grow, though they certainly require much care, as the
sharp west wind blows upon them. In West Jutland one may go back in
thought to old times, farther back than the days when Christian VII
ruled. The purple heather still extends for miles, with its barrows
and aerial spectacles, intersected with sandy uneven roads, just as it
did then; towards the west, where broad streams run into the bays, are
marshes and meadows encircled by lofty, sandy hills, which, like a
chain of Alps, raise their pointed summits near the sea; they are only
broken by high ridges of clay, from which the sea, year by year, bites
out great mouthfuls, so that the overhanging banks fall down as if
by the shock of an earthquake. Thus it is there today and thus it
was long ago, when the happy pair were sailing in the beautiful ship.
It was a Sunday, towards the end of September; the sun was
shining, and the chiming of the church bells in the Bay of Nissum
was carried along by the breeze like a chain of sounds. The churches
there are almost entirely built of hewn blocks of stone, each like a
piece of rock. The North Sea might foam over them and they would not
be disturbed. Nearly all of them are without steeples, and the bells
are hung outside between two beams. The service was over, and the
congregation passed out into the churchyard, where not a tree or
bush was to be seen; no flowers were planted there, and they had not
placed a single wreath upon any of the graves. It is just the same
now. Rough mounds show where the dead have been buried, and rank
grass, tossed by the wind, grows thickly over the whole churchyard;
here and there a grave has a sort of monument, a block of half-decayed
wood, rudely cut in the shape of a coffin; the blocks are brought from
the forest of West Jutland, but the forest is the sea itself, and
the inhabitants find beams, and planks, and fragments which the
waves have cast upon the beach. One of these blocks had been placed by
loving hands on a child's grave, and one of the women who had come out
of the church walked up to it; she stood there, her eyes resting on
the weather-beaten memorial, and a few moments afterwards her
husband joined her. They were both silent, but he took her hand, and
they walked together across the purple heath, over moor and meadow
towards the sandhills. For a long time they went on without speaking.
"It was a good sermon to-day," the man said at last. "If we had
not God to trust in, we should have nothing."
"Yes," replied the woman, "He sends joy and sorrow, and He has a
right to send them. To-morrow our little son would have been five
years old if we had been permitted to keep him."
"It is no use fretting, wife," said the man. "The boy is well
provided for. He is where we hope and pray to go to."

he cast her eye over it, pondered
She cast her eye over it, pondered, caught the meaning, read it through again to be quite certain, and quite mistress of the lines, and then passing it to Harriet, sat happily smiling, and saying to herself, while Harriet was puzzling over the paper in all the confusion of hope and dulness, `Very well, Mr. Elton, very well indeed. I have read worse charades. Courtship - a very good hint. I give you credit for it. This is feeling your way. This is saying very plainly - ``Pray, Miss Smith, give me leave to pay my addresses to you. Approve my charade and my intentions in the same glance.''
May its approval beam in that soft eye!
Harriet exactly. Soft is the very word for her eye - of all epithets, the justest that could be given.
Thy ready wit the word will soon supply.
Humph - Harriet's ready wit! All the better. A man must be very much in love, indeed, to describe her so. Ah! Mr. Knightley, I wish you had the benefit of this; I think this would convince you. For once in your life you would be obliged to own yourself mistaken. An excellent charade indeed! and very much to the purpose. Things must come to a crisis soon now.'
She was obliged to break off from these very pleasant observations, which were otherwise of a sort to run into great length, by the eagerness of Harriet's wondering questions.
`What can it be, Miss Woodhouse? - what can it be? I have not an idea - I cannot guess it in the least. What can it possibly be? Do try to find it out, Miss Woodhouse. Do help me. I never saw any thing so hard. Is it kingdom? I wonder who the friend was - and who could be the young lady. Do you think it is a good one? Can it be woman?
And woman, lovely woman, reigns alone.
Can it be Neptune?
Behold him there, the monarch of the seas!
Or a trident? or a mermaid? or a shark? Oh, no! shark is only one syllable. It must be very clever, or he would not have brought it. Oh! Miss Woodhouse, do you think we shall ever find it out?'
`Mermaids and sharks! Nonsense! My dear Harriet, what are you thinking of? Where would be the use of his bringing us a charade made by a friend upon a mermaid or a shark? Give me the paper and listen.
For Miss - - read Miss Smith.
My first displays the wealth and pomp of kings,
Lords of the earth! their luxury and ease.
That is court.
Another view of man, my second brings;
Behold him there, the monarch of the seas!
That is ship; - plain as it can be. - Now for the cream.
But ah! united, (courtship, you know,) what reverse we have!
Man's boasted power and freedom, all are flown.
Lord of the earth and sea, he bends a slave,
And woman, lovely woman, reigns alone.
A very proper compliment! - and then follows the application, which I think, my dear Harriet, you cannot find much difficulty in comprehending. Read it in comfort to yourself. There can be no doubt of its being written for you and to you.'
Harriet could not long resist so delightful a persuasion. She read the concluding lines, and was all flutter and happiness. She could not speak. But she was not wanted to speak. It was enough for her to feel. Emma spoke for her.
`There is so pointed, and so particular a meaning in this compliment,' said she, `that I cannot have a doubt as to Mr. Elton's intentions. You are his object - and you will soon receive the completest proof of it. I thought it must be so. I thought I could not be so deceived; but now, it is clear; the state of his mind is as clear and decided, as my wishes on the subject have been ever since I knew you. Yes, Harriet, just so long have I been wanting the very circumstance to happen what has happened. I could never tell whether an attachment between you and Mr. Elton were most desirable or most natural. Its probability and its eligibility have really so equalled each other! I am very happy. I congratulate you, my dear Harriet, with all my heart. This is an attachment which a woman may well feel pride in creating. This is a connexion which offers nothing but good. It will give you every thing that you want - consideration, independence, a proper home - it will fix you in the centre of all your real friends, close to Hartfield and to me, and confirm our intimacy for ever. This, Harriet, is an alliance which can never raise a blush in either of us.'
May its approval beam in that soft eye!

Chapter 8
When the professor had gone, Sergei Ivanovich turned to his brother.
`Delighted that you've come. For how long? How's your farming getting on?'
Levin knew that his elder brother took little interest in farming, and only put the question in deference to him, and therefore he told him only about the sale of his wheat and money matters.
Levin had meant to tell his brother of his determination to get married, and to ask his advice; he had indeed firmly resolved to do so. But after seeing his brother, listening to his conversation with the professor, hearing afterward the unconsciously patronizing tone in which his brother questioned him about agricultural matters (their mother's property had not been divided, and Levin took charge of both their shares), Levin felt that he could not for some reason broach to him his intention of marrying. He felt that his brother would not look on it as he would have wished him.
`Well, how is your Zemstvo doing?' asked Sergei Ivanovich, who was greatly interested in Zemstvo establishments and attached great importance to them.
`I really don't know.'
`What! But surely, you're a member of the board?'
`No, I'm not a member now; I've resigned,' answered Levin, `and I no longer attend the sessions.'
`What a pity!' commented Sergei Ivanovich, frowning.
Levin in self-defense began to describe what took place at the sessions in his district.
`That's how it always is!' Sergei Ivanovich interrupted him. `We Russians are always like that. Perhaps it's our strong point, really - this faculty of seeing our own shortcomings; but we overdo it, we comfort ourselves with irony, which we always have on the tip of our tongues. All I say is, give such rights as our Zemstvo establishments to any other European people, and... Why, the Germans or the English would have worked their way to freedom with them, while we simply turn them into ridicule.'
`But how can it be helped?' said Levin penitently. `It was my last trial. And I did try with all my soul. I can't. I'm no good at it.'
`It's not that you're no good at it,' said Sergei Ivanovich, `it is that you don't look at it as you should.'
`Perhaps not,' Levin answered dejectedly.
`Oh! do you know brother Nikolai's turned up again?'
This brother Nikolai was the elder brother of Constantin Levin, and half-brother of Sergei Ivanovich; a man who was done for, who had dissipated the greater part of his fortune, was living in the strangest and lowest company, and had quarreled with his brothers.
`What did you say?' Levin cried with horror. `How do you know?'
`Procophii saw him in the street.'
`Here in Moscow? Where is he? Do you know?' Levin got up from his chair, as though on the point of starting off at once.
`I'm sorry I told you,' said Sergei Ivanovich, shaking his head at his younger brother's excitement. `I sent to find out where he is living, and sent him his I O U to Trubin, which I paid. This is the answer he sent me.'
And Sergei Ivanovich took a note from under a paperweight and handed it to his brother.
Levin read in the queer, familiar handwriting: `I humbly beg you to leave me in peace. That's the only favor I ask of my gracious brothers. - Nikolai Levin.'
Levin read it, and without raising his head stood with the note in his hands opposite Sergei Ivanovich.
There was a struggle in his heart between the desire to forget his unhappy brother for the time, and the consciousness that it would be base to do so.
`He obviously wants to offend me,' pursued Sergei Ivanovich; `but he cannot offend me, and I should have wished with all my heart to assist him, but I know it's impossible to do that.'
`Yes, yes,' repeated Levin. `I understand and appreciate your attitude to him; but I shall go and see him.'
`If you want to, do; but I shouldn't advise it,' said Sergei Ivanovich. `As regards myself, I have no fear of your doing so; he will not make you quarrel with me; but for your own sake, I should say you would do better not to go. You can't do him any good; still, do as you please.'
`Very likely I can't do any good, but I feel - especially at such a moment - but that's another thing - I feel I could not be at peace.'
`Well, that's something I don't understand,' said Sergei Ivanovich. `One thing I do understand,' he added, `it's a lesson in humility. I have come to look very differently and more indulgently on what is called infamy since brother Nikolai has become what he is... you know what he did....'
`Oh, it's awful, awful!' repeated Levin.
After obtaining his brother's address from Sergei Ivanovich's footman, Levin was on the point of setting off at once to see him, but on second thought he decided to put off his visit till the evening. The thing to do to set his heart at rest was to accomplish what he had come to Moscow for. From his brother's Levin went to Oblonsky's office, and on getting news of the Shcherbatskys from him, he drove to the place where he had been told he might find Kitty.
`Delighted that you've come. For how long? How's your farming getting on?'

10 Tips To Create More Effective Surveys_68453
Before you begin to compose your survey questions, you must take the time to really understand the purpose of your survey and you need to keep this purpose in mind every step of the way.
A good survey provides you actionable, clear information for your business decisions. Good surveys have higher response rates, higher quality data, are easy to fill out and aren't confusing.
By following these steps you are well onto your ways of creating more effective surveys.
1. Clearly define the purpose of the survey
Think about how you will use the data that you collect. Mentally walk through the steps you will take once the data have been collected. What do you expect to learn? How do you plan to apply what you learn? What will the output report look like? What charts and graphs will be prepared? What information do you need to be assured that action is warranted? What are your goals and how will the survey help you reach those goals?
By working backwards from the outcome you are aiming for, you can identify the kinds of questions that you need to ask in your survey. Advance planning helps ensure that the survey asks the right questions to meet the objective and generate useful data.
2. Keep the survey short, precise, clear and concise
Short and focused helps with both quality and quantity of response. It is generally better to focus on a single objective than try to create a master survey that covers multiple objectives. Shorter surveys generally have higher response rates and lower abandonment among survey respondents. Make sure each of your questions is focused on helping to meet your stated objective. Don't toss in 'nice to have' questions that don't directly provide data to help you meet your objectives.
You should aim to keep questions, and answers, to the point ?and spell check these as well to avoid appearing unprofessional.
3. Keep your survey smart and tidy
Simple techniques such a page breaks, branching and skip logic add certain finesse to your surveys.
Keeping your audience engaged is avoiding a massive scrolling survey. Try to keep page breaks at logical intervals, so that like questions are grouped together. And refrain from just having one question per page.
By making your survey smarter you can avoid using text like, "If you answered No to Q1 then Answer Q3" - this causes respondent frustration and increases the "drop out" rate. Design your survey using branching logic so that the correct questions are automatically routed based on previous responses.
4. Screen the your audience (if need be)
Consider if it is worth screening the respondents at the beginning of your survey (utilising the like of demographic questions). For example, if you're interested in learning what your shoppers think of a new shipping service, you don't really need 50 responses from customers who only pick items up at the store themselves.
5. Keep the questions simple, specific and effective as possible
Once you've set a course for your survey, you'll need to choose your questions carefully to get the right responses. Choosing the wrong format for your questions can lead to inaccurate information, making your survey results less helpful than they could be. Determine the type of question that is best suited to answer the question and provide enough robustness to meet analysis requirements. This means do you use open-ended text questions, dichotomous, multiple choice, rank order, scaled, rating, or constant sum (ratio scale) questions as their need is realised.
Ask questions that give your audience scope to respond adequately, but don't leave so much leeway that it's confusing. If it's a yes/no question, only give yes and no as answers ?on the other hand, where there's room for maybe, be sure you include it.
6. Make sure your survey flows in a logical order
It is always prudent to add an "Introductory" text to explain the project and what is required of the respondent, while it is seen as professional to have an ending "Thank You" text as well as information about where to find the results of the survey when they are published. In between, it is a good idea to start from broaderbased questions and then move to those narrower in scope.
It is usually better to collect demographic data and ask any sensitive questions at the end (unless you are using this information to screen out survey participants). If you are asking for contact information, place that information at the end.
7. Keep your audience engaged
Whether you're assessing your customer base for a new product or service rollout or trying to get a gauge of customer satisfaction, it's important that you keep your audience engaged in the survey process. This is best done by asking a variety of distinct questions and using a number of different, and appropriate (see above), question types.
If people think you're just reusing the same question over and over, they'll click away or just randomly respond to get done with the process rather than provide the attention you need.
8. Pretest your survey (or survey questions)
Make sure you pretest your survey with a few members of your target audience and/or coworkers to find glitches and unexpected question interpretations. More importantly, it will ensure someone else has read through it and that the questions make sense to a third party. Obtain their feedback... in detail. What were they unsure about? Did they have questions? Did they have trouble understanding what you wanted? Did they take a point of view not covered in your answers or question?
9.Consider your audience when sending survey invitations
For instance, for employee surveys, you should send during the business week and at a time that is suitable for your business. i.e. if you are a sales driven business avoid sending to employees at month end when they are trying to close business.
10. Estimate the time required to complete the survey
As a courtesy, tell your survey participants how long the survey will take to complete. A good rule of thumb is that a survey should take less than five minutes. Obviously, you don't know how fast or slow people read and tick boxes, so you can only guess based on how long it takes you.
By providing a rough estimate of the time, a number of questions, and even progress meter along the way can go far in terms of keeping customers engaged in the survey process. An engaged respondent is far more likely to provide good data.

10 Tips For Web Success_76618
The webmaster's biggest job is to get their traffic up and keep customers/visitors coming back. Building the site is one thing, but simply building and posting a website does not guarantee traffic. In fact, a website could be beautiful and an example of all the latest technology and still not attract a single visitor if not promoted correctly. Here are 10 tips to guide you to success with your website.
(1) The internet is a new medium.
At least compared to print, it is. A website is a waste if it simply re-hashes something which could easily be put into print. Don't have the site be just an online brochure. Put up features which take advantage of the internet as a medium of communication. Filter information for them. Provide search capability. Provide interactivity with features like forums, quizzes and tools. Web visitors like to interact.
(2) Treat the Customer's Time as Valuable.
When a person visits your website, you have their attention for that point in time. You either need to use it or you will lose it - fast. Most visitors have short attention spans, what you need to design your site homepage so that it grabs their attention and provides what they are looking for right away. Its like walking into a restaurant. If you walk in and just stand there and nobody comes to greet you, you might wonder what is happening. But, if the hostess comes and greets you right away and walks you to a table, then you will be there for awhile and eat. The same analogy goes for websites. Don't overcomplicate your website homepage. Best results will be obtained if you make it very clear where to click to find what they need.
(3) Design the site for customers, not the company.
Your site needs to satisfy the needs of customers, not the company. So, don't post content which is not really useful to the site's customer. And avoid over-flattering marketing hype about the company. It inflates the ego of the company more than it helps your customer.
(4) Involve the Visitor.
Keep the visitor involved and make them feel like a valuable contributor. Actively ask for the feedback and suggestions. Ask for communication from your visitors and answer that communication swiftly. When getting that communication, capture their email address. This will allow you to communicate with them long after they have moved on and forgotten about you.
(5) Keep it Current.
You need to have content on your website which is timely and relevant to the customer's life. Posting month-old news is not interesting. Posting dry product information which never changes is not interesting. Yes, you need to have product information and other information on your site that won't change much, but you can also post more timely content. You can, for example, post content about how your products can be used in certain situations in life. Provide tips and techniques - things which are immediately applicable and solve a problem.
(6) Pay Attention to Form/Design.
Some sites simply over-do it on the eye-candy. Big graphics just for the sake of graphics often impress the site's designer more than the visitor. Do not use graphics that are large and purposeless. Remember, some visitors may still be accessing your website via dial-up. Your site needs to load up quickly for all users. A slow website will cause your users to leave quickly. Also, pay attention to graphic and design size. Many web designers operate on fairly large screen resolutions and sometimes forget that even though a graphic looks great to you, it will appear enormous to somebody on a smaller resolution. On the flip side, don't go too light on graphics. A site which is poorly designed and using the default font and no color is not very aesthetically pleasing. Any web visitor, whether they admit it or not, judges your company by your website unless they have something else to go on. A well-designed site communicates professionalism. A poor design makes the site seem like an afterthought.
(7) Promote.
When a visitor communicates to you via email, it is best to use a web form. not only will this keep your email address from being picked up by spammers, it will also allow you to ask your customers for their email address and then store that address for later use. Employ the "push/pull" marketing strategy. A visitor coming to your website is the pull, but later you want to push content back to them in the form of a newsletter or other promotional material. Start a mailing list and use it. Invite visitors to sign up. Promotion makes or breaks a business, and as long as you respect the ethical considerations of your mailing list, you should use it.
(8) Don't Operate in a Cocoon.
The internet is a medium which is shared by millions. When you set up your website, don't operate as if you are a self-contained island. Get out there and keep in tune with what is happening on other websites related to your own. Participate in forums. Post links to other websites and ask for a link in return. Form partnerships with other sites if it is appropriate. When it comes to communication, people like personal contacts. Hiding behind general email address like "sales" and "info" is OK as long as there is a way to also email you directly. A company site which allows email direct to the management is good. Just remember how much you hate calling a company and getting stuck in their phone system. Sometimes you just want to talk to somebody. Give your visitors that ability.
(9) Have a Plan to Attract Repeat Traffic.
Use newsletters, out-going email, contests, forums, clubs, auctions - anything that will cause people to return to your website. When posting links to other websites, don't just send your visitors somewhere else. They may never return. Provide them an exit page. Give them a pop-up when they try to leave your site. Or at the very least make external links open in a new window.
(10) Track Your Visitors
Pay attention to your site's statistics and react accordingly. What are people reading? How are they finding you? Do they just come and leave right from your homepage? How long as they are on your website? Do they return? This data is immensely valuable in fine-tuning your website based on customer needs and wants. Remember, the biggest mistake of any webmaster is designing the site for what THEY want. A successful website is designed for the target audience, not to impress the site's owner.

10 Tips For Best Successful Ezine Advertising_63280
When it comes to advertising, I've tried just about everything. I tried free classified ad sites, I tried FFA sites, I tried banner exchange programs.
The results? Not much.
I was tired of hearing that the Internet is the largest market in human history. Maybe so, but how could I reach those millions of people?
The answer, I discovered, is ezine advertising.
Ezines are sometimes called 'opt-in' lists because everyone who receives an ezine has chosen to do so.
And that's why ezine advertising gets results. People read ezines and they'll read your ad. And if you've matched the ezine to the product you're selling, you've reached your target audience.
There are currently around 90,000 ezines being published every month. So whatever you're selling, there's more than likely an ezine that will take your ad straight to the audience you want to reach.
Ezine advertising is not only effective, it's cheap as well. A 5 line ad in an ezine that goes to 3000 people will cost you between $5 and $20 per issue.
As a general rule, you'll always get back at least the cost of the ad, and usually much more. So there's very little risk.
But there are some tips for successful ezine advertising. Here they are:
1. The first and most important rule is: "Track your Ads!" Say you place an ad in 5 different ezines and get a hundred responses. If you don't track your ads, you won't know which ezines were pulling responses and which weren't.
But how do you track your ads?
Then, when you get a reply with 'ezineA' in the subject field, you'll know which ezine it came from.
For a URL, it's the same principle:
However, if you're going to code your URLs, you'll need a good webstats program to track the coded URLs. Here's another way to code your URLs: for every ezine ad, create a duplicate of your homepage and name the page after the ezine that your ad will appear in. So, if the ad is appearing in EzineA
2. Target your audience. It may seem obvious but some advertisers overlook this. If you're selling a web-marketing course, don't advertise in an ezine that deals with stock options; they probably won't be interested.
Use the 'subject categories' in any ezine directory to find ezines that relate to the product you're selling. You can find a list of 56 ezine directories in 'The Free Directory of Ezines' at:
3. Once you've chosen a number of ezines that target your audience, subscribe to them and examine the ads closely. If you see an ad that keeps repeating issue after issue, you can be pretty sure that it's getting results. You've found a good ezine to advertise in.
4. Check to see how many ads are in the ezine. You probably won't get much response from an ad in an ezine that has 15 or 20 ads per issue. Readers of those ezines have become hardened to the ads and have learnt to skip them.
5. Check to see if the ezine publisher has a policy of never running ads for two similar products in the same issue - your ad will be much more effective if it's the only one of its kind in that particular issue.
6. Small ezines Vs. Big ezines: bigger is not always better. The big ezines with 1000's of subscribers tend to have more ads than the small ezines. Also, small ezines with only a few hundred subscribers often have a much more targeted audience than the big ezines.
7. Repeat your ads. Research shows that off the Web, an ad has to be seen about 21 times before someone acts on it; on the Internet it's about 9 times. If your budget allows, try and have your ad repeated at least three times in a particular ezine. Most ezines offer discount packages for bulk advertising.
8. Email address Vs. URL. The advantage of giving an email address is that it gives you the opportunity to send a powerful sales letter to the person who responded to your ad. It's also much easier to track your ads with an email address than a URL.
9. Offer something free in your ad copy. It'll often tip the balance between a response and no response.
10. Keep your ads short, even if you're not using the number of words you're allowed. Short ads are more likely to be read. Keep your sentences short too; they pack much more power. Use the word 'You'. Don't describe your product but tell the reader what your product can do for them.

10 Tips For A Successful Customer Satisfaction Survey_69195
Customer satisfaction surveys and market research surveys often have response rates in the 10% - 30% range. But regardless of the type of survey you are conducting, you can have a major effect on the number of respondents who complete your survey.
Eliminate the guesswork and follow these recommended design principles:
1. Inform respondents of the what, why, who, and how. Tell respondents as much information possible about: what your survey is asking, why you are asking it, who will see the results, and how you will use the results. Discuss how respondents will benefit from the results and how you will put the findings into action (and then be sure to follow through on your promises).
2. Ask overall satisfaction at the start of the survey. This will allow you to measure customers' overall impressions of your company, product or service before they start thinking of specific aspects of those relationships. Also, if they stop during the survey, you have already had a major question answered.
3. Address confidentiality and anonymity. Transparency is key here. If the survey results will be confidential and/or anonymous, make sure respondents know this (both in the introductory letter and start page of the survey). If respondents know their answers will not be linked to them in any way, they will be more likely to respond and more likely to provide truthful responses.
4. Use a 5-point satisfaction scale (not too long, not too short). Question scales should be easy to understand, descriptive and have balanced labels associated with the numbers.
5. Set a deadline. When you send out the initial survey notice, be sure to include a date by which people must respond. Ideally, your survey should be available from 7 - 10 days. If it is less than 7 days, people might not find the time to respond. If it is longer than 10 - 14 days, your request will get forgotten in their inbox.
6. Be consistent with your question wording. Consistency is critical in customer satisfaction research. Question scales should be consistent within a particular questionnaire as well as over time. The key measures of customer satisfaction, including the overall satisfaction question and those asking about specific aspects of the relationship, should all use the same scale.
7. Send reminders. Send a reminder email to respondents a few days before the survey is set to end. Be sure to re-state the what, why, who, and how in the reminder email.
8. Keep the survey short and focused. Focus on getting a read on your customers' relationship with you. Avoid the temptation to ask everything you've ever wanted to know. The more ground you try to cover, the more likely it is that respondents will abandon the survey due to fatigue. Also, tell people how much time the survey will take to complete so they know what to expect.
9. Ask demographic questions. Inquiring about demographics enables you to analyse the data by different subgroups - such as gender, age, income etc. Consider hypotheses about customer profiles that may affect satisfaction and include questions that capture that data.
10. Follow up. After the survey is complete, be sure to thank the respondents and follow up with them if you told them you would do so. Consider this an investment in the future. If you let people know that their time was not wasted, they will be more willing to respond to your surveys in the future.

World War 2 - The Build Up To War Part Ii_42504
Once secured as the supreme ruler of Germany Hitler gained support of the German people by convincing them he was their saviour from the economic depression, the Treaty of Versailles, Communism, Jews and other undesired minorities. Over the coming years Hitler was to oversee the expansion of Germany's industrial production and civil improvements to a scale which the German people had never before witnessed. Hitler encouraged women to stay at home to bring up their children and keep house. In a speech in 1934 Hitler stated the German woman's world was ?her husband, her family, her children and her home.
Germany's unemployment was reduced to a point where the country was nearing full employment, mainly due to arms production and sending women home so men could take their role in the workplace, Hitler's reconstruction and re-armament came from currency manipulations by the Finance Minister Hjalmar Schacht which included the Mefo bills which were credit notes issued by the Nazi Government mainly to armament manufacturers which could be converted to Reich mark's on demand. The Mefo bills were fundamental in not only strengthening the economy but also concealing military spending which was forbidden by the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler would also oversee a huge improvement to Germany's infrastructure with the construction of Dams, Autobahn's, Railroads and many other civil works, however all the reconstruction would come at an expense as the overall cost of living would increase by 25%, although the traditional NSDAP voters would see an increase in their standard of living. With the majority of citizens content with life, Hitler's campaign to purge Germany of undesirables would reach fever pitch.
After Hitler became Chancellor in 1933 he appointed long time Ally Hermann Goring the Minister of the Interior for the State of Prussia which consisted of two thirds of Germany including the capital Berlin. Goring's new title gave him complete control over the Police force, which he used to the advantage of the Nazi's to prevent the Police from interfering with the Nazi SA brownshirt troops on the street, which they revelled in by looting shops intimidating and attacking Jews or anyone else who defied or stood in their way. Next Goring would purge and remove from the Berlin Police force anyone which he felt to be unreliable to the cause and had sworn in 50 000 SA Stormtroopers as Police Auxiliary officers with the power to arrest which they used to their gain. Soon prisons were overcrowded with people in custody which resulted in the dawn of outside prisons known as Concentration Camps.
On the 26th April 1933 a decree was passed allowing the formation of the Secret Police force also known as the Gestapo. Goring began to use the Gestapo to silence Hitler's opponents in Berlin and other areas at the same time enhancing his power, However very soon Goring would face stiff competition for the leadership of the Gestapo in the shape of another ambitious Nazi Heinrich Himmler and a fierce battle would develop between the two power hungry men, which eventually Himmler would triumph, and on the 22nd April 1934 Himmler was appointed head of the Gestapo with Reinhard Heydrich as his second in command.
Reinhard Heydrich would set up a national intelligence system which would keep tabs on everyone within the Third Reich no matter how high in the hierarchy they were, big brother was indeed watching. In 1936 the Reichstag passed the Gestapo Law, which would mean the Gestapo was above the law and no legal appeal could hold them responsible for any acts they performed, having the authority to arrest and charge imprison or execute any prisoner without any legal procedure to prevent them, a tactic they would use without mercy for years to come.

Wrist Rests_48718
A wrist rest thatæ¯ too thick or high can cause pain with forward movement of the wrist. Some individuals may become dependent upon their wrist rests and may bend their wrists to reach side or bottom keys rather than move their forearms. When using a wrist rest one should keep the wrist straight rather than bent up or down. The proper way to use a wrist rest is to place it in front of the keyboard or mouse. Some computer users push the keyboard back and use the wrist rest under their forearms. This depends all on your level of comfort.
Some people's wrists are very sensitive to pressure underneath them. Others are very sensitive to pressure just underneath the palm. The key is finding a spot that is comfortable for you. It is recommended that wrist rests for keyboard are used during pauses while typing. While typing, use the wrist rest lightly, replica chanel watches, and move your entire hand to reach side keys rather than bending your wrist sideways.
Thickness of the rest should be the same measurement of thickness as the front of the keyboard. The wrist rest should be deep a spread over a large area. If thickness is less than two inches, this is considered too narrow.
Wrist rests should have smooth rounded or square corners. Be careful about using wrist rests that have sharp edges at the sides. Make sure that the material of your wrist rest is cleanable. The material of your wrist rest should be breathable and not have too much friction and it should not constrain the arms.
There are many features of a wrist rest such as the anti-static feature which is useful if properly grounded, and if static has been a continuous problem. Wrist rests for a mouse should move slide and roll motion with the mouse.

Write An Attention Getting Resume - Here's How_45937
If you have been thinking you will need to pay someone to get a quality resume, then think again. It is true that many individuals write poor resumes. But it is also true that those same individuals could write good resumes - if they were provided with the basics. It's not hard to write a good resume. You just need a few key pointers from professional resume writers.
A good resume is one which sets you apart from the competition. Don't worry, this is not as hard as it may seem. After all, the majority of resumes are poorly written and do not represent the candidate well. Instead, your resume should showcase your background and qualifications in such a way that the hiring manager would seem incompetent if he or she did not invite you in for the interview. Here are a few tips from the professional resume writers to help you achieve that goal.
1. Be honest. It should surprise no one that employers can and will verify key facts on your resume. It's not that difficult for them to do. If they do find something significantly misleading or false, you could get terminated. Even if you simply over state your abilities, you will have a difficult time matching your performance with the expectations your resume has set.
2. Be concise. One page should do unless you have several years of experience. Assuming the latter, definitely keep it to two pages and learn to edit and prune information. Keep only the most necessary and impressive. Think in terms of using the interview rather than your resume to fill in details as needed. The reader should be able to skim or quickly read your resume to get all of the critical details.
3. This is basic, but it is surprising how many fail to use bold headings between sections. For example, use headings such as "Objectives" and "Employment History." Put your contact information at the top. Make sure the phone number you provide has an answering machine or voice mail associated with it. Your address, phone number and email address go at the top of the page. Employers should never have to search to find out how to get in touch with you.
4. The career objectives seems to be a especially difficult for many. Get used to asking for what you really want. Just be sure to stay within your capabilities. It is not good form, for example, to be asking for the same position as the hiring manager who interviews you. Do make sure, however, that your objectives section shows that you are confident and quite capable of getting things done.
5. Summarize your work history with an emphasis on experience, skills, and accomplishments. Using bullet points allows for a clean, clutter-free layout for this type of information. The important this here is to demonstrate that you are productive and know how to get things done.
6. Be selective when summarizing your work history. Certainly anything that, as mentioned above, proves that you can get things done should usually be included. However, give consideration to items that are not relevant to the type of position you are seeking and eliminate them. Instead, expand on things that would make a direct impact on the types of businesses you are applying to. Consider reducing or even leaving off information that is quite old. Keep in mind that a resume is a sales tool, not a tell-all autobiography.
7. Be sure your resume is easy to read. Use one font - one that is fairly standard. You never want to appear cute by using, for example, a cursive font. Don't try to squeeze everything onto the page by using a tiny font size. This is an indication, instead, that you need to do more editing.
8. Use action words like designed, initiated, managed, etc. to describe your qualifications. This is often one of the more tricky resume writing skills to acquire. Try looking at good resume samples to get ideas. Overall, keep in mind that you want to appear that you are highly competent and that you accomplished things. Read your resume over to assure that it does not give the impression that you simply showed up for work each day.
9. In your education section don't forget about courses, certifications, formal trainings, achievements, and awards. But, don't go overboard with items such as trainings that are not pertinent to the job you are seeking. This section can also help if you need some critical experience with new technology, or experience in an area that you have not yet worked. You might take, for example, some night-school classes or other professionally organized training. This will at least allow you to demonstrate meaningful preparation for that type of work.
10. Don't feel you have to write a "one size fits all" resume. The benefit of writing your own resume is that you have lots of backup materials that you can draw from if you are pursuing two or three slightly different opportunities. Also, if it fits your schedule, take some time to review a prospective company's web site and "tune" your resume accordingly prior to sending it to them.

Writing Wrongs- Editors Help Students Avoid Costly Errors_48874
College students struggling to write the perfect paper often turn to friends or parents for help in correcting everything from punctuation to syntax errors to misspellings.
Chances are, however, that unless Mom and Dad are working for The Washington Post, some things are going to fall through the cracks, and junior may be less than thrilled with his final grade.
Students have another resource for help polishing those all-important essays: online editorial services like Scribendi.com.
"It's important to have someone check your work before you hand it in," says Chandra Clarke, a director of Scribendi.com. "Especially if you've been working on it in the wee hours of the morning, as students often do."
A variety of research supports the need for an objective set of eyes to critique writing and fix errors. A study by Meredyth Daneman and Murray Stainton of the University of Toronto tested whether proofreading one's own writing is harder than proofreading someone else's.
Subjects spent 30 minutes writing an essay, then proofread their own papers as well as those written by others. The results showed that subjects were less able to detect errors in their own essays. The reason? Self-generated text is too familiar to the writer. In other words, people usually see what they expect to see in their own writing, not necessarily what is there.
And while most writers will run spelling and grammar checks on papers before turning them in, this is not a foolproof solution. That's because there are two types of spelling errors: non-word errors, which create a string of letters that do not make up a real word, and word errors, in which the misspelling results in a real word that is incorrect in the context of the sentence.
Humans catch only 75 percent of word errors, according to Raymond Panko, professor of information technology management at the University of Hawaii. Spell-checkers catch non-word errors but miss word errors - the very mistakes that people have a hard time finding.
An editor, however, can provide a fresh set of eyes and catch errors that a student didn't even know existed. In addition, editors tend to look at the text with no preconceptions about what is supposed to be there, so they won't miss those image-hurting mistakes.
Some services like Scribendi go a step further by offering constructive criticism and explaining word usage issues and standard writing practices. Students get a better document while learning how to improve their own writing. - NU

X, Y And The Lost Generation- A Look At Youth After The Baby-boom And Today_42789
There is much written of Generation X and Y, and until recently, much evolving discussion of the prospective Generation Z. However, 2009 and the continuing global recession has stopped the logical progression of generational classification in its tracks - and has introduced the world to a group of youngsters called (initially by Wes Streeting, president of the UK's National Union of Students) Generation Crunch'.
X
The term: Generation X' is quite relative in regards to the way it is used, and despite often being in reference to American teenagers it was actually first used in the UK with the published study of 60's teenagers: "Generation X" by Jane Deverson and Charles Hamblett. Today the term usually refers to the segment of the population that was born after the baby boom (from the mid-1940s to 1960, approx.) and before the 1970s. Sociologically, UK and US Generation X-ers lived through Reagan and Thatcher, and saw the rise of MTV, computer games, hip-hop and post-punk.
Y
Logically, Generation Y' is said to have come after and refers generally to those born between 1980 and the late-1980s - although, of course, there are many other varying dates used by different commentators. Sociologically, mass media and communication was well established when Generation Y-ers were young, and they are often referred to as digital natives or the digital generation - seeing the rise of the internet, mobile phones and social networking.
And Beyond&
In 2009 those at the tail end of Generation Y' who are graduating from college are being described as Generation Crunch'. The arrival of this spontaneous classification is needed in order to refer to those entering the uniquely recession-hit workplace which is already said to be saturated and highly competitive - but is predicted to be considerably different to that experienced in the early 2000s.
Not only will the Generation Crunchers' develop a more mature approach to money, savings and credit than those who were pre-crunch, but reports (such as those seen in The Guardian) suggest that they will be more acutely aware of the importance of further education and being distinctive when it comes to personality and job training in a highly competitive society. This notion is set to be endorsed by the continuing development in the accessibility of education via means such as online study and e-Learning degree courses, as well as open content available on the internet.
Although the notion of Generation Z' is continually evolving, as we see the west gradually clamber out of the recession, it seems that those graduating five years from now will be experiencing a quite different social and economic landscape - and one that is more in keeping with what we expected from Generation Z'.
